This is a Beta release for experienced EPOC users. As such it is not completely finished, mostly untested and comes with several limitations. You use it at your own risk and neither I nor FreEPOC are responsible for anything that happens to you or your machine.

Limitations of this Release

I know that there are more limitations than ususal in this first public Beta release of Start5. I admit we were running out of time and so some features simply have not made it into this version. It has been a tough decision to release Start5 as it is. On the other hand we have already missed several release dates and are one year behind schedule so I felt obliged to release something to all the users waiting so long. All issues mentioned here will be addressed in the following releases or via patches. You should check http://www.freepoc.org/start5.htm often since a large number of updates/patches will be made available in the following days.

• Some keyboard commands are missing. For example you cannot copy files by pressing Ctrl-C yet

• PlugIns are not automatically loaded on installation and there is no way to unload PlugIns except closing Start5

• The help files is incomplete and describes features regarding PlugIns that are not implemented in this release

• This release is optimized for the Psion netBook. Most bitmaps are in 16 or 256 colors and therefore waste space and CPU power on other machines.

• The "Window animation" setting in the "Menu preferences" dialog is ignored

• The "Hotkey" setting in the "Taskbar preferences" dialog is ignored

• This release is not optimized for top performance. Menu rendering might be slow on all non-color machines.

• The installation assistant is missing. Amongst other things this means that you have to create Program shortcuts manually.

• You cannot delete non-empty recursive folders
